Oxifend® Sport

 

Description
Oxifend® Sport is a proprietary formulation of potent natural antioxidant extracts from New Zealand grown blackcurrants and the seeds of New Zealand grown grapes.

 

Naturally Extracted
Our 100% Aqua Pure® extraction process ensures the activity of Oxifend® Sport is maximised, is freely soluble in water and there are no chemical or solvent residues.

 

 

 Antioxidant activity.
The natural grape and blackcurrant extracts in Oxifend® Sport have potent antioxidant activity, more than 6 times the activity of vitamin C.

 

Clinical Results

  • Grape seed extract

 

The grape seed extract of Oxifend® Sport has been shown to decrease muscle damage by 34% in a group of athletes undergoing exercise.

 

Eleven well trained rowers completed a full cross-over trial. One hour prior to a 30 min maximal rowing ergo-meter test the participants were given a capsule containing either 150mg of Oxi-fend® Sport or 150mg of glucose. A second capsule of 150 mg was given immediately post-exercise bringing the total dose to 300mg. Blood samples were taken one hour prior to exercise and one hour after exercise and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) was measured in plasma samples as an indicator of muscle damage.

 

 

Levels of LDH significantly increased in the blood one hour following the rowing ergo-meter exercise. An acute total dose of 300mg of Oxi-fend® Sport decreased the release of LDH by 34 +/-6%.

 

  • Blackcurrant extract.

 

Supplementation with blackcurrants prior to human exercise has been shown to decrease the levels of indicators of oxidative stress by 30% (1). The authors demonstrated that it was the anthocyanin component of extract that was probably involved in this effect.
